College is a waste

"College is a waste"

The four pillars of Argument are: Thesis, Evidence, Refutation, and Conclusion.

In the essay "College is a waste" the writer argues his opinion on college and how its "a waste" and uses
the four pillars of arguments as we read along his essay.

The thesis is found on paragraph 2 when he states "
left college two months ago because it rewards conformity rather than independence, competition rather than collaboration, regurgitation rather than learning, and theory rather than application" (Stephens).
the reason on why I chose this is because the thesis statement is the "why?" that person feels strongly about the statement.

The Evidence in the essay is in

The Refutation is found in paragraph 10 "Some might argue that college dropouts will sit in their parents’ basements playing Halo 2, doing Jell-O shots, and smoking pot. These are valid but irrelevant concerns, for the people who indulge in drugs and alcohol do so before, during, and after college. It’s not a question of authorities; it’s a question of priorities. We who take our education outside and beyond the classroom understand how actions build a better world" (Stephens). This alone battles all stereotypes of a college "dropout". It explains to the opposing side that no matter what action it is, everyone has done I before and after college.
on paragraph five where it states "Fortunately, there are productive alternatives to college." he then continues and uses an ethos reference when he says "Becoming the next Mark Zuckerberg or mastering the phrase “Would you like fries with that?” are not the only options." (Stephens).
I chose this part of the essay as well because it gives real life examples of how you don't need college all the time to get the career you want.

In conclusion, whether you go to college or not only with ambition and determination you will succeed in life. Look up to those who have made it in life with responsibility and you will see that all good things go to those not with a better school or a degree, but with passion in your future.
